Independence Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Gary Hash sweeps up glass following a three-vehicle crash that occurred in the westbound lane at the intersection of Rainbow Circle and Main Street in Independence last Friday afternoon. Independence Police Cpl. Matthew Adams said a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro driven by a juvenile struck the rear of a 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by another juvenile. The Cherokee then rammed a third vehicle, a 2006 Jeep driven by Sharon Wingate of Independence. The driver of the Camaro, who was charged with following to close, was taken to Twin County Regional Hospital by the Independence Volunteer Rescue Squad for treatment of neck and other injuries. The other juvenile and Wingate were not injured. Adams estimated damage to the Camaro at $5,000, $2,500 to the Cherokee and $500 to Wingate’s vehicle.
