Strong finish lifts Bobcats over Cavs

 RADFORD –– Carroll County shrugged off a miserable second quarter to take a 37-35 lead into the fourth quarter, but Radford rolled down the stretch to knock off the Cavaliers 53-46 in a nondistrict girls’ game Wednesday.

Maryah Sydnor scored 14 of her 27 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Bobcats (3-1), who outscored Carroll County 19-8 in the fourth.

The Cavaliers led by seven points before being outscored 17-3 in the second period, but came back to life in the third to take the lead.

Sydnor also had 14 rebounds for the Bobcats. Lindsey Martin led Carroll County with 15 points.

Galax 56, Holston 46: Four Maroon Tide players reached double figures in a nondistrict win Friday in Damascus.

Holston, which had recently snapped a 103-game losing streak, trailed just 36-35 after three quarters, but Galax outscored the Cavaliers 20-11 in the final eight minutes to seal the win.

Allison White led all scorers with 17 points and Channing Russell tossed in 16 to lead the Maroon Tide. Bailey Shumate scored 11 and Hailey Cassell added 10.
