Stolen car recovered using OnStar

A Fries woman was arrested in Galax and charged with stealing a vehicle July 7, after it was located through the On-Star system.
Heather Metchele Clontz, 20, was arrested by Galax Police Capt. James Cox and charged with knowingly possessing stolen property. The vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet, had been reported stolen in Smyth County last Wednesday.
On-Star was able to pinpoint the location of the vehicle off Anderson Road and gave dispatchers the exact location. The information was entered into the Galax Police Department's computer-aided dispatch system to obtain the address.
Clontz is scheduled to appear in Galax General District Court on July 12.
