HILLSVILLE — Town police located a stolen vehicle within minutes of the incident being reported on the evening of March 1, according to police Chief Greg Bolen.
The report came in at about 6:15 p.m. from the vicinity of the Red Carpet Inn, where Heather Ann Bedsaul of Ararat told police that her Chrysler PT Cruiser was taken.
Hillsville police entered the stolen vehicle information into the Virginia Criminal Information Network. Bolen said within 20 minutes Sgt. Robert Martin and officers Bradley Hoffman and Brandon Quesenberry pulled the vehicle over.
“They conducted a felony stop on the vehicle in town,” the chief said. “They arrested Nicholas Daniel Dutton for alleged larceny of a motor vehicle.” Dutton, 29, of Mount Airy, N.C., was transported to the New River Valley Regional Jail, where he posted bond.
Bolen appreciated the officers for resolving the matter quickly.
“Officers are doing a lot of proactive enforcement, proactive patrols and I think that’s what led to the fast recovery of the vehicle,” the chief said.
