Galax's Jose Rojas and Darian Sizemore claimed individual state championships and Edu Rojas was a state runner-up as the Group A and AA wrestling tournaments concluded Saturday night at the Salem CIvic Center.

Edu Rojas, wrestling to defend his state title in the 119-pound class, came up a point short as Manassas Park's Maximo Gonzales-Paredes managed a takedown with 16 seconds left to win 5-4.

Jose Rojas became the first of Galax's two state champions on the night when he flipped Glenvar's Tyler Tate and recorded a pin 1:20 into the second period of the 125-pound class.

SIzemore bounced back from a rough start and won the 145-pound championship by pinning Glenvar's Jason Ayers. Sizemore trailed 8-4 when from the neutral position he caught Ayers in a barnyard and pinned the Highlander six seconds before the end of the second period.

The strong showing in the finals helped Galax overtake Strasburg for second in the team standings behind state champion Glenvar.

More results to be posted Sunday.
