State Races: How we voted

Republican candidates swept the Twin Counties in Tuesday’s election, with Ken Cuccinelli winning in Carroll County, Grayson County and the City of Galax.
Cuccinelli had 5,060 (65 percent) of the vote in Carroll, compared to Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s 2,182 (28 percent) and Libertarian Robert Sarvis’ 603 (8 percent). In Grayson, he received 2,806 votes (59 percent), while McAuliffe received 1,458 (31 percent) and Sarvis received 473 (10 percent). In Galax, the scores were 728 for Cuccinelli (57 percent), 455 for McAuliffe (35 percent) and 98 for Sarvis (8 percent).
The GOP won the lieutenant governor’s race locally. E.W. Jackson bested Democrat Ralph Northam 4,884 (64 percent) to 2,757 (36 percent) in Carroll, 2,896 (63 percent) to 1,713 (37 percent) in Grayson and 706 (56 percent) to 544 (43 percent) in Galax.
The attorney general’s race was too close to call on Wednesday, but there was no doubt in the Twin Counties.
Republican Mark Obenshain easily defeated Democrat Mark Herring locally: 5,465 (71 percent) to 2,240 (29 percent) in Carroll, 3,273 (69 percent) to 1,476 (31 percent) in Grayson and 816 (65 percent) to 446 (35 percent) in Galax.
