I went to a meeting in Hillsville in May 2011 concerning the roads in Carroll County and sat through all the excuses why the Virginia Department of Transportation cannot fix the secondary roads.
What do we live in, a third world country? I have been on better roads in poor countries than these roads
At the end of the meeting, the representatives suggested we write to our congressman. Some of these roads were put on the six year waiting list. Well, that is just great. Some have already been on it for 15 years and some were dropped off.
Let’s fix the problems in our own back yard first. Here is a solution to this mind-boggling problem for VDOT.
VDOT needs to learn how to balance a checkbook just like the rest of us. My checkbook does not have millions of surplus dollars at the end of the year. We do not need to expand Route 58, which a majority does not want anyway.
VDOT just replaced part of Fries Road, which it did not need. Parts of Route 58 were dug up and repaved and painted. It did not need any of this.
When are VDOT, congressman, senators and the governor going to set their priorities straight?
Fix these roads and quit playing politics and whining about what Washington is doing.
There is plenty of money. It just needs to be delegated correctly.
That is your job.
