 CCHS volleyball camp

Carroll County High School will host its volleyball camp July 15-18. Open to girls entering grades 3-12. Cost is $50 and players may register the first day of camp. For more information, contact Cindy Edwards at (276)733-4421.

 

Thomas Owens basketball camp 

The annual Thomas Owens Hoops Camp for boys and girls will be held June 10-13 at the Grayson County Middle School and High School gyms. Open to players ages 6-15. Cost is $50, which includes a camp t-shirt. Campers will learn shooting, passing, dribbling and rebounding as well as GCHS schemes. Baywood Ruritan Club golf tournament

The Baywood Ruritan golf tournament will be May 25 at Crestview Golf Course, opening with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Entry fee for the captain’s choice event is $30 per player. Family teams are encouraged, and individuals are welcome. Prizes for top three teams, longest drive and closest to the pin for men and women. Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase. Oak Hill basketball camp

Galax Parks and Recreation will sponsor the 21st annual Oak Hill Warrior Basketball Camp June 10-14 at the Galax Recreation Center. Open to boys and girls  ages 6-16. The camp will be under the direction of head coach Steve Smith and his staff along with current players. All participants will receive a Nike camp t-shirt and Nike camp basketball. Men’s softball tournament 

A men’s double-elimination softball tournament will be held May 18-19 in Adwolfe, located in Smyth County. Twelve-team limit. Five home run limit. Entry fee is $75 per team, each team receives two 44-core balls. Contact David Gallimore between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at (276) 228-2665 or (276) 620-5038.

 

American Red Cross lifeguard training

Class will meet May 17 (7-9 p.m.), 18 (8 a.m.-6 p.m.) and 19 (8 a.m. until finished). Must be able to swim 300 meters, swim 25 meters and retrieve 10-pound brick from deep end and return in less than a minute, 45 seconds, and tread water for two minutes using only the legs. Must be 15 by April 21. Cost is $175. 

 

Chris Coleman baseball tournament 

The annual Chris Coleman Memorial Baseball Tournament will be June 21-23 at the Grayson County Recreation Park. Tournament is open to Dixie 13-14 teams. To register or for more information, call Randy Shinault at (276) 233-5736.

 

Grayson Rec. T-ball registration

The Grayson County Recreation Department is conducting T-ball registration for 4-5-year-olds through May 20. Forms may be picked up at county schools or at the Grayson County recreation office. Registration fee is $25 per player, $30 after May 20.

 

Volleyball open gym

Volleyball open gym for experienced players is Sundays from  1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Galax Rec Center 4th floor gym, when at least 8 players confirm by e-mail or cell phone text. No fee. Walk-ins are welcome. Non-marking soles required to protect gym floor. To be added to the player group contact Cary Simms at (276) 237-7124.

 

Galax Recreation indoor pool public swim

The Galax Recreation Department will host public swims at the indoor pool through May  26. Cost is $2. Times are as follows: Mondays 1-3 p.m.; Tuesdays 1-3 p.m., 6:30-8:45 p.m.; Wednesdays 1-3 p.m.; Thursdays 1-3 p.m., 6:30-8:45 p.m.; Fridays 1-3 p.m., 6:30-8:45 p.m.; Saturdays 1-5 p.m. (Dec. 1-March 30 6:30-8:45 p.m.); Sundays 1-5 p.m.

 

Galax Recreation indoor lap swim

The Galax Recreation Department will host a lap swim at the indoor pool through May 25. Cost is $1.50. Times are as follows: Mondays and Wednesdays 7:15-8:15 a.m., noon-1 p.m., 6:30-7:15 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays noon-1 p.m.; Fridays 7:15-8:15 a.m., noon-1 p.m.; Saturdays 10-11 a.m.
