Galax 8, Narrows 1

Dio Rodriguez and Luis Moreno each recorded a hat trick as Galax completed an undefeated regular season with an 8-1 Mountain Empire District win.

Charlie Adams and Edu Rojas each scored once for Galax (15-0-1 overall, 6-0 district).

Cody Holley scored the lone goal for Narrows.

Carroll Co. 3, Tazewell 1

Lucas Webb’s first career varsity goal turned out to be the eventual game winner as the Cavaliers took a Southwest District win Thursday in Tazewell, their first road win of the season.

Webb took the ball at midfield, dribbled through three Bulldog defenders and tucked it away for a 2-0 lead with eight minutes left in the first half.

Zach Edwards converted a Chris Hawks pass for Carroll’s first goal, and Hawks capped the Cavaliers’ scoring late in the match.

Carroll County finishes at 7-8-1 (4-5-1) and in fourth place in the SWD. Carroll hosts Richlands in the tournament quarterfinals Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Cavalier JV team finished undefeated in district play and will open its tournament Monday at home against Tazewell. Game time is 3:30.


Carroll County 7, Marion 1

The Cavaliers got a five-hit complete game effort from Brett Anauo and ended their regular season with a Southwest District win Thursday in Marion.

Anauo allowed one earned run, striking out seven and walking one. He retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced.

Michael Kelly gave the Cavaliers the lead for good with a solo home run in the first. Cody Robinson added a two-run single in the third. T.J. Martin and Chris Lineberry were each 3-for-4 and Robinson was 2-for-4 for the Cavaliers (11-9), who finished fourth in the district standings. Carroll hosts Marion in the SWD tournament’s first round Tuesday.

Carroll County 7, Patrick County 6

The Cavaliers did all their scoring in the first two innings and held on for the nondistrict win Wednesday in Stuart.

Kelly had a three-run homer in the top of the first and Robinson singled and scored on Brandon Atwood’s base hit as the Cavaliers took a quick 4-0 lead.

Tyler Reavis added a two-run single in the second.

Brent Hall went 5 2/3 innings, upping his record to 4-1 by allowing four earned runs on eight hits, striking out three. Jarrod McCombs worked the final 1 1/3 innings for the save, stranding the tying run at third in the seventh.

Martin, Lineberry and Kelly had two hits each for Carroll County.


Grayson County 10, Fort Chiswell 2

Courtney Halsey picked up the pitching win and also slugged a solo home run Wednesday as the Blue Devils finished undefeated in MED play.

Grayson led 6-0 when Halsey’s homer sparked a three-run third.

Megan Funk was 3-for-4 while Lindsey Burris, Joyelle Combs, Rachel Hash and Halsey added two hits each.

Patrick County 13, Carroll County 0

Kaitlen Culler tossed a two-hitter and had two hits as the Cougars won a nondistrict matchup last week in Stuart.
