Six from area named to all-region teams

All three Twin County football teams were represented on their respective all-region teams as the Region C and Region IV lists were released recently.

Grayson County and Galax were represented by a pair of brothers on the all-Region C first team, Mikey and Max Rodgers for the Blue Devils along with Donte and Steven Peoples of the Maroon Tide.

Max Rodgers was tabbed the region’s top quarterback after accounting for more than 2,300 yards of total offense and having a hand in 30 touchdowns. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound junior threw for 1,858 yards and 20 scores while rushing for 452 yards and another 10 touchdowns.

Mikey Rodgers, a 6-2, 200-pound senior, was named a first-teamer at wide receiver after finishing the year with 1,048 yards and 17 touchdowns on 54 receptions.

For Galax, the Peoples brothers combined for nearly 3,000 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns. Donte Peoples, a senior, missed nearly three full games but still earned first-team status as both a runningback and a kick returner. The elder Peoples finished the season with 1,606 yards and 27 touchdowns before his season ended early in the 10th game with an ankle injury.

For all his numbers on offense, Steven Peoples made the first team as a linebacker. The 5-10, 210-pound junior finished with 61 tackles, including seven tackles for loss, and three interceptions.

Lucas Holder, a mainstay on the Carroll County offensive line as a 6-5, 270-pound senior, represented Cavaliers on the all-Region IV first team.

Giles runningback Ian Mann was the Region C offensive player of the year and George Wythe defensive end Hardy Lester took the honor on defense. In Region IV, top players were Cave Spring quarterback Conner Baker and Hidden Valley defensive back Jake Kite.

Top coaching awards in Region C went to H.S. Ingo (Division 1) of state champion George Wythe and Stephen James (Division 2) of Fort Chiswell. In Region IV, Tunstall’s Buddy Brown (Division 3) and Salem’s Steve Magenbauer (Division 4) were honored.
