Shipwrecked on interstate

-A A +A

A New Jersey man lost control of his truck while pulling a sailboat Monday around 1:30 p.m. on Interstate 77 northbound at the 22 mile marker in Carroll County. According to David Young of the Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department (who also provided this photo), witnesses reported that the driver started swerving as he entered a curve, hit the guard rail on the left side, then flipped the truck and boat across the interstate, which caused the trailer to come loose. “Several people stopped to check on the driver and, when they found out that he was okay, they pushed the sailboat onto the emergency lane,” Young said. The HVFD and EMS units from Carroll County and Laurel responded to the call. Virginia State Police is investigating the accident.
