HILLSVILLE — A 49-year-old Carroll County man has been charged with possession of untaxed alcohol and marijuana after deputies searched his home Sept. 25.

Sheriff Warren Manning identified the man as Milton Dale Coulson, who was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of untaxed alcohol.

Investigators Fred Bobbitt and Venton Smith obtained a search warrant as part of an investigation into suspicious activities.

Several items were taken during the search as evidence for the case, such as approximately 16 gallons of alcohol in gallon jugs and glass jars, an unspecified amount of marijuana, several items used in the distribution of the drugs, as well as “six guns that are believed to be stolen in a break-in in the town of Wytheville,” according to the Carroll authorities.

Assisting the investigators in the search were Investigator Shannon Goad, deputies Donnie Spangler, Bobby Melton, Chuck Edwards and canine Brenda.

Manning expects more charges to arise from this ongoing investigation.

Coulson was held without bond in the New River Valley Regional Jail pending an appearance in the Carroll County General District Court.
