INDEPENDENCE — Dr. Elizabeth Thomas, superintendent of Grayson County Schools for the past six years, has announced her intention to retire at the end of this school year.
In a letter to faculty and staff members, Dr. Thomas said she has “had the privilege to work with a highly professional, student-centered administrative team and exceptional teachers and support staff who have the best interests of students as their top priority.
“I am very appreciative of and thankful to those School Board members who supported our efforts to provide the best educational opportunities possible for all the wonderful students in our county.”
She said the early timing of her decision would allow the Grayson County School Board enough time to recruit and select the best candidate to lead the school system into the future.
