An alleged burglar made a bad call by leaving behind a key piece of evidence, according to the Carroll County Sheriff's Department.
Chase Kiran Altice, 34, of Vinton, has been charged in connection with a daytime break-in at a residence in the Laurel section of the county on Nov. 23.
Police discovered that a cell phone found inside the home belonged to the accused.
Carroll Sheriff Warren Manning said Altice's vehicle was spotted in the area at the time of the crime, as well.
Several items were taken from the home, along with wrapped Christmas presents.
Altice is charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny. He is being held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin.
Manning said Altice also faces charges in more break-ins in jurisdictions throughout Southwest Virginia.
The case was handled by investigator Shannon Goad and deputies Barry Lineberry and David Walls.
