Reedy’s win lifts Team Elk Creek to SBRA title

WAYNESBORO -- Defending Southern Bracket Racing Association national champion Team Elk Creek Dragway stormed back to win the 2009 points championship, taking the title over Colonial Beach Dragway in a tiebreaker. For the finals last Sunday under sunny skies, the race began to turn into a battle between Colonial Beach and Elk Creek, with Colonial beach blowing out in the late rounds. But Buck Reedy of Pulaski went on to win the Motorcycle class for Team Elk Creek, and when all racing had concluded at the SBRA finals, Elk Creek and Colonial Beach had finished deadlocked for the team championship. The first tiebreaker is that a point is added to the team that had a racer win in his respective class, and Reedy’s victory provided that extra point and the overall team championship. Bill Lewis, Donnie Quesenberry, Jim Bo Sells and Kevin Halsey all went deep into their respective eliminations. To close out the season at Elk Creek Dragway, Robbie Copenhaver of Wytheville won the Trailer Challenge Event, taking a new enclosed ProLine trailer as top prize. Track champions were also crowned at Elk Creek Dragway (see final points standings in Scoreboard). 2009 champions are Bill Lewis of Hillsville, driving a Chevy-powered dragster (Super Pro Eliminator), Bobby Hash of Independence in a Chevy Camaro (Outlaw Eliminator), Tim Douglas of Wytheville in a Pontiac Firebird (Footbrake Eliminator), Ronnie Brannock of Galax in a Chevy Impala (D.O.T. class), Michael Waller of Fries (Motorcycle class), Zack Sexton of Radford (Junior Dragster Bracket 2) and Lockie Bales of Atkins (Junior Dragster Bracket 1). Elk Creek Dragway will close the book on the 2009 season when it travels to Sportsman Park Dragway in Winston-Salem for the International Hot Rod Association World Bracket Finals. Team ECD will send a 48-car team to the event.   ELK CREEK DRAGWAY POINTS STANDINGS Final 2009 standings   (Points based on total number of points earned minus three worst scores.
