I see in the paper where Hillsville is going to do things to thrive. The first thing they need to do is collect the back taxes. That would be best thing for the welfare and good of the community. Get busy.
That’s the system
I do not think we should be letting nine people on the Supreme Court tell America what to do, when lots of times it goes against the people. Everyone should have a right to vote. We are all God’s children. I don’t care what color we are. I happen to be white, but it doesn’t matter. I would like to know if we can’t get along on earth, how we think we can get to heaven. I don’t understand why we are going by a supreme court anyway after 200 years. I just think that is a shame.
For the recent decoration day in the Fries Cemetery, the flowers were beautiful but someone sure goofed on the mowing.
The repulsive Republicans are running scared. Already, a [political action committee] has started a campaign called “Stop Hillary 2016.” They don’t want another Clinton president. The last Clinton presidency — or as I call it, the good ole days — the economy was booming and jobs were plentiful. There were no long, costly, unnecessary wars, police state and bogus war on terror. The wealthy were forced to pay fair taxes and therefore the budgets were balanced and there was no $17 trillion of debt. After having two completely incompetent presidents in a row, it would be nice to have the Clintons back. Welcome back, Bill and Hillary.
We really have a messed up country when the Supreme Court will go along with gay marriage. To me, marriage is between a woman and a man and that is it.
Not so proud
I don’t know what the United States is going to be so proud of [for the Fourth of July]. The American flag is kind of drooping because the U.S. can’t win any wars anymore. We conquered the British in the Revolutionary War and again in the war of 1812. We conquered the whole world in 1941-45. We haven’t won a war since. We are the greatest power in the world. We have wars going on 10-20 years now. Conquered the world in four years and can’t win a war in going on 20 years. I don’t know if I am going to even hang the American flag up, and I am retired military. I don’t know what we are so proud about anymore. We have our tails between our legs everywhere we go.
Red flag on prescriptions
I’m responding to “chronic pain.” In Galax we have a tremendous problem with prescription drug abuse. Sounds like the particular person may have been treated unkindly. However, usually with pain, we would like to have a diagnosis and a treatment before we prescribe narcotic pain medication. It is kind of a red flag when someone calls, just arriving in town, asking for narcotic pain medication. As a physician, and as a person who is responsible to the state government for proper prescription of opiate drugs, I cannot, in good conscience, prescribe these medications without a clear diagnosis, relationship with the patient and understanding of what they need.
Mongo has issues
Just a few words from the roundtable crew. We are trying to get our lives back together after Hurricane Mongo. We joined the local factory to see if they would build us a round table out of oak. Mongo break our table. Our table made in China out of Popsicle sticks. Mower babe got job to buy front tooth Mongo knock out. We tell her not to smile. She look like jack-o-lantern. We hope Mongo get off of cold brewskies and straighten up. Goodbye for now.
Peace and love
Mongo never cause trouble for anyone. Except maybe Twinkies. Me love to eat them and chew them. Me try to forgive roundtable peoples. Me believe in peace and love. Me only get high on Twinkies and old Lawrence Welk records. Editor know Mongo not violent. Me love editor. Me give him kiss. Mmmuah. Me love everybody. Me not go to jail. Me not in jail. Me at Horton’s Supermarket waiting for new shipment of Twinkies. Me love everyone. Don’t believe roundtable peoples. Pray for forgiveness.
I would like to comment on the general mischief that goes around. I have never seen it so bad. I live in town and can’t keep anything outside. There is always something going on around my house. Kids running around. Cops coming and getting them. Things getting stolen. Even little things like pliers on your back porch or hammers or anything like that. Any type of small equipment is something they can just steal and take it and hide it. There should be no reason that this is on. We can’t leave our doors or cars unlocked anymore. You go outside and can tell your car has been messed in. Law enforcement should worry about this stuff and should keep track of it and not just let it happen because it is kids. Especially not the ones from the welfare apartments.
Placed in nomination
I agree with the person who put the comment in The Gazette that Don Young was great [when he was Grayson County’s administrator]. He kept taxes down. He knew what he was doing. Why didn’t we hire somebody like him who had a proven track record? But, now our taxes are higher and they will keep going higher to meet the budget all the time. Bring back Don Young. Had half the staff, half the salary.
Too many chiefs
I’m calling in regard to the Hotline comment about too many chiefs … we the people need to get together and find out exactly what is going on Grayson County and get the word out so we can make some change. I am just as interested as this person that says “too many chiefs.”
We sure have a messed up country. We have no way to go but down, down, for these states and people going along with these same-sex marriages, which is very, very wrong.
Any problem a person might have over the color of a person’s skin should have been laid to rest long ago or kept to themselves. Racism is just a contradiction. People want to whine and cry about minorities not wanting to work, yet they are turned down for positions they are more than qualified for, and for no other reason than the color of their skin. This has been witnessed recently and locally. It truly sickens me to think that in some cases people are only secure in their employment because of the color of their skin. It really does work out in the end for the closed-minded, holier than thou, nimwits with these issues, doesn’t it? Goodness knows even though minorities are not “good enough to consider for employment,” they are certainly welcome to come spend their hard-earned money in these establishments. These people must be related to Paula Deen. Shame on you.
Truth will stand
When this president has a Muslim in the White House for a meeting or whatever, that is a big mistake. They hate us. More terrorists will be coming out of the woodwork. This president doesn’t have any more respect for seniors and people of this country. All of the scandals — he needs to be impeached. He is wasting our tax money and printing money to do the things he wants to do. He also is a dictator trying to force things down our throat that are unconstitutional like Obamacare. Republicans need to get down to business and not let them get away with what they are doing. One of the 10 Commandments is “thou shalt not lie.” They will pay dearly for what they are doing if they don’t change. The truth will stand when nothing else will.
Voting on guns
Virginia’s two U.S. senators Kaine and Warner voted to let the U.N. take our guns. Forty-six senators voted to give our Second Amendment constitutional rights to the U.N. We need two new senators for Virginia. We don’t need to give our Second Amendment away to the U.N.
Editor’s note: The Snopes website, which researches internet rumors and urban legends such as this, says this claim regarding the Arms Trade Treaty is false. “The measure voted upon was not the treaty itself, but a non-binding test amendment expressing opposition to the ATT, which was tacked onto an unrelated congressional budget resolution.”
We gave graduation gifts of money to family and friends. We have not received any acknowledgement or thanks. Don’t young people have enough respect or appreciation to write a simple thank you note for gifts they get?
