Don’t mess with bingo
I do not agree with the caller about the bingo. If someone starts a disturbance, they should be asked to leave and if somebody disagrees, so be it. As far as asking to leave, they should have asked the man and woman some time back that went out together at break time and stayed out together for an hour and a half then came back in to play bingo every night. This was a disturbance. The workers there are very nice to everyone. If they are rude it is because you treat them that way. If you have to smoke, obey the rules. Use the door they ask you to. Otherwise, keep your butts at home. If you are about ready to quit, go ahead and quit so the rest of us can enjoy a relaxing night of bingo. If they did shut it down, you would find something else to complain about. So, keep bingo open for those who enjoy it. You are doing a great job.
Scoop it up
If you walk your dog anywhere on government property, you have to clean up after your dog. I walked the New River Trail and you can’t even walk without stepping in horse manure. Something should be done about that.
I was just reading about the caller calling in about spelling the town of Fries in the June 13 edition of the Hotline. If that caller doesn’t like the way Fries is spelled — especially after it was named after its founding father, Colonel Fries — why don’t they go back to the rinky dink city they are from. Look at a lot of cities. What’s new about New York? Did Phil invent Philadelphia? Lay off the town of Fries. It may be a small town and it may be full of some hillbillies. The problem with the Town of Fries now is a lot of these here people moving in from other cities wants to change everything. Why don’t they leave it alone? Live in the Town of Fries for so many years before you open your mouth about it. If you don’t like the way it is spelled, don’t talk about it. Don’t worry about it. It’s not your town. We will be just fine without you.
I, too, have seen the KKK flag flying on Delhart Road and to me it is sad and disturbing. I don’t know the homeowner’s personal beliefs, but I do know the history of the KKK in the south and it is one of hate and violence. How could that flag bring anything else to mind? God made us all and calls us all his children. Not his white children or his black children or his brown children, etc. He wants us to see each other as he does, with eyes of love. One final thought. How many black soldiers have served and died defending our freedom, which includes the right to fly that kind of flag?
Read the paper
I’d like to respond to “where were you?” This should be titled “brainiac.” What kind of brainiac honestly thinks the Carroll County Board of Supervisors has anything to do with holding political party primary elections, or regular elections for that matter? If you read the paper the past few months, you would know when the primary was. Open your eyes and read the paper. People like you are why the Hotline stays in business and outside people are laughing at us.
About the comments about dogs being left in hot cars, I agree it is cruel. But there are also dogs and cats being left in houses unattended, nobody to feed or water to them from anywhere to two to four days. That is cruelty to an animal and these people who do it ought to be ashamed.
Losing the feel?
This is in response to calls concerning students receiving pieces of paper instead of their diplomas for graduation from Carroll County High School, as a result of them still owing fees. Our county has moved away from its local community feel. We are no longer a family as a community. The superintendent and the principal are looking to put a feather in their hat.
Play during the day
The reason Carroll County High School needs to collect all possible fees is to help pay for the new bleachers and light towers at the football field. Ride by there some day and see what several thousand dollars of our tax money are being wasted on. The school system says it can’t give raises and needs more of our tax money to operate, but it can light the field for a game, which benefits a small portion of students. This is ridiculous. Those games should be played on Saturdays when lights are not needed. How much is wasted each year lighting the games? At times of budget problems and low employment, tough choices must be made. The Carroll County School Board would rather play games than save money.
I’m calling about how the city and the county does with sewer and water projects. How they tear up your yard, tear up your driveway, no water pressure, no sewer, nothing. What are our commissioners and public service leading to? It seems like whatever was in the paper, you get no response, no answers from no one. And we are supposed to trust the county government to work on our behalf? It’s nothing but a joke.
Flag shouldn’t fly
I read in the Hotline last week about the offensive KKK flag on Delhart Road. The person was offended by that. I just want to tell them, honey, I really can understand how you are concerned and I just want to put in my words and say that is not a very nice flag and I do not appreciate it and that flag should not be flying. Shame on whoever is flying it.
My nephew who attends Carroll County Intermediate School also had his name and picture wrong in their annual. So, it isn’t just the high school annuals. They had his picture with another kid’s name under it and then his name under another kid’s picture. It seems to be a problem throughout Carroll County.
I agree with the caller who said it was a shame that some students in Carroll County were denied their diplomas because they owed 20 or 30 cents toward some kind of school fee. It is even worse after what I found out when I read the letter to the editor that said when the school system did it, they were probably violating [a Virginia Board of Education policy]. Maybe if we didn’t have to have [administrators hired from] away from here, we could have people that treated each other fairly.
