In a hurry
This is to the person that drives a [description deleted] from Fries to Galax on Riverside every morning. If you are in such a hurry to get to work, why don’t you leave earlier? You are going to get somebody killed by passing three and four vehicles.

Site alternative
Regarding the Galax school site, there are 20 acres available on West Stuart Drive right in the heart of town. Why can’t that be a school site? Lots of traffic but it can be controlled better than the middle of the Kipling neighborhood. It has been empty and undeveloped for many years, so hopefully that would be a consideration.

What he said
I appreciate what the president is trying to do with equality and everything, but we ought to go back to the movie “Caddyshack” and remember a line Ted Knight said in that movie: “The world needs ditch diggers, too.” Everybody can’t be a CEO of a company. We need somebody to do the grunt work. Everybody can’t be the same. It doesn’t hurt my feelings to work for a person that owns a company as long as they do you right and you do your job and you can pay your bills and you can live a good life. That line in the movie makes a lot of sense.

Lost and found
I just want to thank the person that turned my pocketbook in at Walmart. That’s a nice person. We live in a great area, don’t we?

No reason needed
Here’s an interesting story you might want to put in your paper that I just watched on the news. Seems like the law now can pull you over if somebody calls in from their home and makes an anonymous call and tells them you are doing something. You don’t have to be doing anything [illegal] now for them to pull you over. My point is that takes out of the illegal aliens’ hands the rights to say discrimination. So, now, we don’t have to have any reason to pull them over, just like you don’t have to have any reason to pull any Americans over. So, there will be no more discrimination called by the Muslims or anyone when they are pulled over because we don’t have to have a reason. Welcome to America.

Condemning people
I find it ironic that people choose certain verses of scripture to condemn people. Look at Leviticus 15:19-33. There, women are unclean for a period of seven days and then seven days after. You can’t touch them. And then when they are not unclean anymore, they must bring two turtle doves to the priest for sacrifice. Is that what we should start doing with women?
Editor’s note: I have the two turtle doves, but what am I supposed to do with this partridge in a pear tree?

Born that way
People who are so anti-gay are showing their ignorance to the latest scientific research. A gay baby is born this way. Perhaps it is God’s way of keeping planet earth from becoming overpopulated. By the way, anti-gay people, Earth is a planet.

Small sample
The doctors are not against Obamacare. I have two different doctors. I am a senior citizen. Both of them told me they like Obamacare and they want to keep it and it’s the insurance companies that are to blame. I don’t know what to think.

Passed along
I was reading about repairs to fix flood damage at Byllesby Dam. They should have put a subtitle under that, saying Appalachian Power will want a new rate increase, because it seems every time they do something, they want a rate increase. It’s the first company I’ve seen that doesn’t upkeep their own things, the customers have to do it for them. What would we do if Walmart started making us pay for the grocery carts? Be expecting it, folks. There will be another rate increase in the making. It’s just a matter of time.
