Help the middle class
I’m not the greenhorn, as someone commented, but sounds like that person is the greenhorn, to me. Everybody knows we are in debt to China because of George Bush. Obama has been trying to get us out for years. Also, if you had a half-million dollar bill where your spouse had cancer and the insurance companies ripped you off, you might not be able to pay it all on your own. Not everybody is the same way. We need all the help we can get. Jesus said to help the poor. I don’t understand Republicans saying they don’t want to pay their taxes yet they can’t help the middle class and it is their right. It is not their right. They might say it is, but they should pay their fair taxes same as anyone else and quit sending their money overseas. Why we are in a bad economy now is because of those millionaires and billionaires doing all that.
Editor’s note: CBS News reported in 2012 that “The national debt has now increased more during President Obama’s three years and two months in office than it did during eight years of the George W. Bush presidency.” According to Forbes Magazine, the U.S. has 442 billionaires.
I’m calling someone who was sent over to take care of an elderly lady I stay with. We caught an employee taking medication out of her pill bottle. She got confronted and quit and told a bunch of lies. Now the elderly woman can’t get anyone to stay with her.
I think that any sports figure that has anything to do with taking any illegal drugs should be barred from sports for life.
Read the Bible
These legislators that think gay marriage is okay must not believe in the Bible. They need to read the Bible and see what happened at Sodom and Gomorrah.
At your service
I want to give a special thank you to the manager at the Dollar General Store on East Stuart Drive. I am disabled. I was in there shopping. She got all my items out, put them on the counter for me and put them all back in the buggy and helped me out to my car. Just want to give her a special thank you.
Well, here we go again. We got a small raise on Social Security and Appalachian Power is asking for a raise. You know they own the business, why don’t they have to pay for their own repair work like we do on our home? If something tears up, the furniture factory doesn’t ask us to pay for their repairs, because they own the business — when they have a breakdown. Groceries are going up, gas has gone up, propane has gone up. There is no end to this. My health insurance also went up.
Give it to God
I am calling on behalf of what is wrong with America today. It isn’t just President Obama and all the evil going on in the world, it is because Christians have failed to recognize God as supreme and He is in control. People need to get back in the house of God and pray and seek him and let the Holy Ghost just lead and guide them through all the truth and use a King James version of the Holy Bible, no other Bible. We need to humble ourselves and pray and turn from our wicked ways. Everybody is worried about everything. Give it to God and let Him take care of it.
I would just like to shout out about something that has been bugging me for a long time. I can’t understand why so many of our schools have so many North Carolinians that are working. Why don’t we hire Virginians that pay taxes. These North Carolina people, I have nothing against them, but I think we need to hire our Virginia people. There are a lot of them that need jobs.
The quiet little town of Hillsville is again being embarrassed by Mayor Greg Crowder upon being convicted of impersonating an ABC officer and police chief Greg Bolen [being involved in an incident under investigation]. I have always been proud of my Hillsville citizenship, but I cannot go anywhere without being plagued and embarrassed by laughter and comments made about those two. Ms. Davis, you stated Mr. Crowder was innocent until convicted. Well, he has been convicted. As for Bolen, why was someone on duty not called for the fight and legal paperwork filed?
Editor’s note: Hillsville Police Department officers on duty responded to the incident, and then turned the investigation over the Virginia State Police. That was standard protocol to avoid a conflict of interest, because of Bolen’s involvement in the incident.
A lot of us Grayson County have made a very bad mistake in electing our supervisors. Maybe the recall would be great. Another complaint I have with the supervisors is that some of our ball games had to be put down in Fries and the people in the upper end of the county have to come all the way to the lower end of the county just to play a little ball game. What’s going on? Maybe we need a change.
Just doesn’t figure
Regard the Hotline call “too cold for trash,” that it was so cold the poor boys on the back of the trash truck shouldn’t be out there and said the weather was below zero and look out their window and see those big red trucks picking up his or her trash. This person hadn’t wanted their trash picked up and didn’t want the poor people on the back of the truck, why did they put it out there? If they didn’t want it picked up, they shouldn’t have put it out. They undoubtedly put it out because they expected the people to be out there. Just doesn’t figure, does it? Complain about everything, won’t you?
Don’t blame me
I don’t see why legislators want to re-test older drivers. I’m 72 years old. I’ve been driving since I was about 12 years old and I haven’t been in any accidents, any speeding or anything else and I do drive the speed limit. Legislators need to start working on something else.
Safer in the city
The person that called in and said that if people didn’t like speeders on Pipers Gap Road, they could move — they must be one of the speeders. It is safer to drive in Richmond and Washington than it is on Pipers Gap Road. There are wrecks on this road all the time, right here next to my house.
Founded on work
About the call about trash pickup being on cold days of freezing weather — if it wasn’t for y’all to have anything to fuss about in Grayson County, y’all would have anything going. So, when the garbage bill goes up or your water bills or whatever, fuss about that real hard because that’s what you need to be thinking about — your taxes and all. Man is made to work. He can get in for a few minutes and warm up, but man is made for work. That’s what the country is founded on and that’s what we need to be doing.
Sign me up
I’d like to comment on the people commenting on the people riding on the trash truck when it is so cold. I would love to have a job like that. They ought to be thankful they have a job. You cannot find a job. They are just hard to find.
People of Grayson County, beware of the [leader] to repeal our zoning ordinance. He is not working in our best interest. The ordinance was designed to protect our way of life and our beautiful countryside. We should let it remain.
