No harm done
I’m calling in response to “wrong way.” I was spanked with a switch and I turned out all right. My parents were spanked with a switch and they turned out all right. I tell you what spanking you with a switch teaches you — it teaches that you obey the first time without getting a whipping but you can go ahead and let them do anything they please, give them everything they want and then let them live like hell and that might be where they wind up. Beware.

Do as you please
I think you should let a child have everything it wants. Don’t put meal on the table and say “come to dinner and eat.” Take each one out. Buy it a hamburger or hotdog or whatever they want and then give them everything they want. Buy them a new car, fill it up with gas and then you can sell your house to get them out of jail. Would be the best thing I would know to do if they are never corrected in any way.

Selling off
I think it is great that companies like the Treasure Hunters Road Show come to Galax. Galax is full of history and everything but it is also full of a lot of people who are in dire need of extra funds. The only thing is that recently on one of the news channels, they investigated one of the Treasure Hunters Roadshows and proved that it is not the Antiques Roadshow that is on TV. People don’t even know the value of some of their items are.
Editor’s note: As a point of clarification, in the case of the show in Galax, the business did not represent itself as being affiliated with Antiques Roadshow.

Humble yourself
In response to “imagine this,” you say that for no reason you are not allowed to see your grandson. I’m sure there is a reason. You just don’t want to admit it. Have you been demanding and controlling, doing whatever you want whether his parents like it or not? Have you respected their wishes? If not, they have every right to keep him away. The only rights a grandparents have are ones the parents permit. They owe you nothing. As far as gifts, you cannot buy someone’s love. It is about the quality of time you spend with them. If you truly love your grandson then humble yourself to the parents in order to see him. It is not about you.

We’re the customers
When corporate America and our government wake up and realize that our jobs and our people were the ones buying the junk in the world, it might be just a little bit smarter and do something different.

Their decision
About the caller that quotes from the Good Book on Proverbs 22:6 — well, you left out a few words on this one. Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Well, you can raise children as best as your knowledge but, the path they take is their own. You can lead a horse to a watering hole, but you can’t make them drink.

Could they say?
Come along with me to see what is inside a little boy’s heart just to take a peak inside his heart. I want you to know this child is being decided by people who don’t even know him. If they were asked these questions could they answer all or even one of them? What things does he like to do? Where does he like to go? What does he like to watch? What is his favorite book? What is his favorite food? What is his favorite color? Could they answer? I sincerely doubt it.

Lights on, please
I would just like to offer some friendly advice to drivers in the Twin County area. If it is foggy or raining or dusk, turn your lights on. Not your parking lights. Turn your lights on. I met a bunch of vehicles in the fog the other day — silver vehicles, no lights, no nothing. It is very dangerous. It is not about whether you can see out of your vehicle, it is about being seen. So, please, everybody turn your lights on and encourage everyone you know to do the same. In the words of Andy Taylor, “Y’all act like you got some smarts.”
