Rates hike a pain to town

-A A +A

To Hillsville citizens,
As you probably have heard and read, the Town of Hillsville is having to propose a substantial increase in water and sewer fees due primarily to the loss of the [Carroll Public Service Authority] water purchases and sewer flow from the Interstate 77 interchange.
This is extremely painful and unfortunate for those Carroll County citizens, businesses and industries within the Town of Hillsville. So much so that it is my concern that some local businesses or industries might not expand, might reduce jobs or possibly close down because of the substantial increases, something neither the Town of Hillsville nor county wants or can afford, I am sure.
While the Town of Hillsville is still very curious how the county was convinced, and by whom, that pumping sewage 13 miles or so made more sense than gravity flowing it a couple of miles, nevertheless what is done is done, but the harm caused by the decision could be very negative for us both.
Therefore, for the sake of those Carroll County citizens, businesses and industries within the Town of Hillsville, I would ask and encourage the county and PSA to consider returning that sewage flow from the 1 77 interchange to the Town of Hillsville and to forego plans to use regional water at I-77 as well.
Neither the Town of Hillsville nor the county can afford to let our past failures to work together harm our joint economic well being. The Town of Hillsville would be glad to discuss this issue with the necessary parties at the earliest convenient time.
