Radio station entertaining, informative

-A A +A

The longer I listen to Galax WBRF radio, the more I appreciate what a rich, unique media resource we have here.
In an era when most stations play the same top-whatever songs over and over, our local station plays a vast diversity of new and old, hits and great-but-forgotten, dusty tunes by artists and songwriters from the past.
If you listen to Buford Kegley long enough, you will end up with the equivalent of a Ph.D. in country music.
He plays the stellar hits, as well as a broad assortment of older tunes and artists who never made it to the top, but made memorable and vital music.
The same can be said for the work of Jay Allen and his encyclopedic knowledge and understanding of bluegrass and old-time music.
Staff and announcers are gracious in supporting local arts and non-profit organizations. Last week they were broadcasting from the American Red Cross blood drive in Independence.
Thank you, WBRF, for keeping us entertained and informed.
