The Mount Rogers Health District is reminding the public that rabies is an ever-present threat and that everyone should be careful to protect the community by getting rabies vaccinations for their pets.
So far this year, 15 animals have tested positive for rabies in the district: one raccoon in Galax; three raccoons, one red fox, one gray fox, and one skunk in Carroll County; one raccoon in Bland County; one cow in Washington County; one cat and one bat in Wythe County; and two raccoons, one gray fox, and one skunk in Smyth County.
