Rain water ponded to three feet in Galax’s low-lying Bottom neighborhood after a heavy downpour on Tuesday, this time spilling over onto heavily traveled Meadow Street.
The Galax Fire Department and the Galax Police Department responded to Givens Street that afternoon following a sudden rain storm that flooded the neighborhood. The water dislodged a propane tank from behind Southern States.
The 50-gallon tank was leaking as it floated away towards homes on Givens Street.
The tank was considered a hazard because of its potential to explode.
