INDEPENDENCE — An Independence man has been charged with breaking and entering following an incident that occurred Oct. 21.
Grayson County Sheriff Richard Vaughan said deputies responded to an alleged residential burglary in progress at 269 Beaver Dam Road in Independence about 5:30 p.m. that evening.
Upon arrival, Deputy Eric Testerman and Sgt. Arnold Peters found a lock that had been broken off of the garage door.

Testerman used police dog Gauge while searching the garage. Gauge alerted at the rear of the building near a workbench. According to the police report, Peters began moving some of the wood and other items from under the workbench and located Anthony Allen Bobbitt, 31, of Beaver Dam Road.
Bobbitt was charged with breaking and entering, possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamine and obstruction of justice.
Bobbitt is being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
Peters, Testerman and Gauge received a commendation for their quick response, along with their tenacity to locate the suspect and make the arrest without further incident.
“Both Sgt. Peters and Deputy Testerman did an outstanding job,” Vaughan said.
“They responded quickly, were very observant and utilized K-9 Gauge effectively.  This is how it is supposed to work.”
