HILLSVILLE — A 20-year-old Hillsville man has been charged after allegedly resisting arrest while appearing drunk in public on Aug. 31, according to town police.
Joshua Edward Stanley was taken into custody after an altercation on North Main Street at about 9:45 p.m., according to a news release from the Hillsville Police Department.
Sgt. Alan Gravley approached to arrest Stanley, who appeared to be intoxicated
“When Stanley was told he was under arrest, he assaulted Sgt. Gravley and fled on foot,” the news release said. “After a foot pursuit, Stanley was taken into custody by Sgt. Gravley, Officer Anauo and Officer Dalton.”
Charges placed against Stanley include felony assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, obstruction of a magistrate, appearing drunk in public, possession of alcohol under age and destruction of police department property.
