A May 8 fire in Carroll County is under investigation.
The Galax Fire Department responded to a call at 400 Potrock Road after midnight last Wednesday. Firefighters arrived to find an outbuilding completely destroyed by the flames.
The outbuilding appeared to be abandoned, along with the trailer that sat in front of the building, according to firefighter Chris Hennis.
“When we got there, it was totally gone and we just had one truck put out what was left,” said Hennis. The firefighters remained on scene almost an hour.
Fire Chief David Hankley noted that the fire was ruled suspicious because of people seeing vehicles leaving just before the incident occurred. The fire is being investigated further by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators had no comment about the incident on Friday.
Laurel Rescue, the Carroll Sheriff’s Office and a responder from the Virginia State Police also arrived at the scene, Hennis said.
