Blue Ridge PBS show "This Week In Richmond" filmed an episide during the 76th Annual Galax Old Fiddlers' Convention.

An episode filmed at the Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention and featuring the Twin Counties will be shown Friday on Blue Ridge Public Television.

The segment will be on the “This Week In Richmond” show that airs at 10 p.m.

Host David Bailey met with Galax Mayor C.M. Mitchell, Hillsville Mayor Bill Tate and Twin County Regional Chamber of Commerce Director Judy Brannock to learn their views on how tourism, collaboration and a strong work ethic are helping to reinvent local economies.

In the discussion, Mitchell, Tate and Brannock all stress how valuable cooperation in and around the localities has been to the success of tourism initiatives and other economic development efforts.

While the need for more jobs is still an issue in the region, they say local traditions and the character of residents are important elements to a quality of life that people look for when choosing a place to live and work.

The second half of this new “This Week in Richmond” episode features Virginia Del. Jim Scott of Fairfax, who was born in Galax, and Del. Riley Ingram of Hopewell who has come to the Old Fiddlers' Convention every year since he began serving in the General Assembly 20 years ago. These legislators share their memories of the region and its residents.
