Old Timey Days offer a glimpse at the past

HILLSVILLE — Fall harvest time gives attendees of Shockley’s Old Timey Days a chance to see farming practices from bygone days.
The Sept. 24-25 event offers a glimpse at threshing, plowing, corn cutting, chopping, meal grinding with horses, oxen and antique implements.
Activities include bluegrass and old-time music, wagon rides, old wire tie bailer, kraut making, soap making, apple cider, butter churning, pottery making, old sawmill operation, shingle splitting, weaving with loom and spinning wheel, a cane mill, hay press, hay stacking, corn straw broom making, quilting and knitting, old-timey ice cream making, blacksmithing and more.
Food from Barren Springs Fire Department and local church groups will be available.
There will be preaching under the tent Sunday morning beginning at 10 a.m.
The activities will be at 1101 Worrell Estate Road, off Virginia 100 outside of Hillsville.
Admission is $6, or free for children age 10 and younger.
Rain date is Oct. 1-2.
