Odell Hamden remembered

-A A +A

My memories of Odell Hamden are wonderful and plentiful, knowing him as long as I can remember.
He was one of those people who, if you knew him, you grew up looking up to and it only grew stronger as you got older.
Growing up in Galax Presbyterian Church, I always remember him being in the choir and always someone you knew would be there if there was any type of need. He would always say, "You're looking good today!"
You could often seeing him walking to the office from church, especially during tax season, but church was first. Then, I learned after becoming a member of the Hillsville Rotary Club that Odell had lived the Rotary four-way test. He was an active Rotarian who lived to help others.
Odell was the same any time you saw him. I had the pleasure of knowing his family and graduating with his youngest son. He was involved with many activities and you always saw him supporting the Maroon Tide when his kids were playing sports or in the band.
Galax has lost one of a kind. He was a good city council member and worked for every citizen because we were all important to him. He gave 110 percent to anything he attached his name to.
I have truly lost someone I have looked up to as long as I can remember.
