An updated community Web site designed by Professional Networks in Galax allows visitors to view a calendar of events, plan their vacation and get directions to area happenings.
The site tcvaevents.com was launched in June 2007 and has averaged 17,000 hits per month, as planners view events happening in Grayson and Carroll counties and Galax.
Individual events listed on the tcvaevents.com site are getting high rankings on Google search engine lists for their respective topics.
The Whitetop Mountain Maple Festival listing appears second on the Google search page for that topic. The Galax Fourth of July carnival listing from tcvaevents.com is second among listings for that event on Google. Hillsville cruise-in is seventh, Hillsville events are fourth, Carroll County events are second, Grayson County events are third, and Galax events are 10th.
Search engine rankings from tcvaevents list some area events high on the Google search list, such as Whitetop Mountain Maple Festival, Galax Fourth of July carnival, Hillsville cruise-in, Hillsville events, Carroll County events, Grayson County events and Galax events.
The upgraded Web site features brighter colors, with yellows and reds to make it “sunny, cheer and happy,” said Mandy Nester, of Professional Networks.
Each organization that uses the site to list events gets a header image to identify which entity the user is viewing.
Drop-down menus allow end users to jump to a certain month, and the font size on the event titles is larger to make it easier for viewers to read.
Users can add events to their vacation planner through the “Plan My Trip” button, which allows users to select events to add to a list and get driving directions to each.
The event details page allows users to read more about events, and to search events based on category or organization.
A “Get Area Info” button allows users to sign up for mass e-mails to notify them of upcoming events.
Through the site, users from organizations not only get to list events, but locals and other organizations can go to the site, fill out an event submission form and promote their own happenings.
