Narrows starts hot, surprises Galax 71-47

NARROWS -- Galax fell behind by 16 points after just eight minutes and could never recover, suffering a 71-47 loss to Narrows in a Mountain Empire District boys’ game Friday. The Green Wave (8-3 overall, 2-0 district) raced out to a 24-8 lead after the first quarter and was never threatened the rest of the way. Narrows knocked down a dozen 3-pointers on the night, including six by Brock Lusk, who led all scorers with 23 points. Graham (5-2 overall, 2-0 district) jumped out to a 23-8 lead in the first and widened the margin to 44-21 by halftime. Jordan Bryan and David Marrs led all scorers with 20 points apiece for Graham, Scott Brewster scored 14 and Darius Carper added 10. Kayla Goins scored 19 points to go with 14 rebounds and five assists to lead Carroll County, rated No. 8 in Timesland by the Roanoke Times. Maleah added nine points and grabbed 14 boards, and Lindsey Martin had eight steals.
