Marion stops 2-pointer to top Cavs 15-13

HILLSVILLE –– Carroll County was denied on a two-point conversion with 1:09 to play as Marion escaped with a 15-13 Southwest District win Friday at Tommy Thompson Field.

Trailing 15-7, the Cavaliers (3-4 overall, 1-2 district) took over on their own 15 following a Zack Surratt interception and drove the length of the field, capping the drive with Dillon Caviness’ 28-yard TD reception from Blake Bowman. Fullback Cody Mabe was stopped at the 1-yard-line on the PAT as Marion held on.

Marion (4-3, 2-2) scored on an 83-yard Brock Hannah run, but the Cavaliers led 7-6 at halftime on Bowman’s 19-yard scoring toss to James Lanning and Mason King’s PAT.

Hannah booted Marion into the lead with a 27-yard field goal, and Caleb Parsons added an 8-yard scoring run.

Bowman threw for 119 yards, while Hannah led Marion with 134 rushing yards.
