March is Red Cross Month

-A A +A

When neighbors help neighbors in emergencies, it's something to celebrate. That is why every U.S. president since Franklin D. Roosevelt has declared March as Red Cross Month.
The Wood's River Chapter of Red Cross has served this community so long and so well that it is easy to overlook the fact that its services are performed largely by volunteers and are supported through the generosity of people right here in Galax, Grayson, Carroll and Wythe.
Thanks to their commitment, hundreds of local families have received critical help just in the past year when disasters, including home fires, have struck.
Our community is a safer place because hundreds of our neighbors have received Red Cross training in lifesaving skills like first aid, CPR and water safety. And that's only the beginning.
What makes these achievements worth celebrating is that each is truly a gift given by a member of this community. The Red Cross is nothing more, and nothing less, than the goodwill of our neighbors, coming together in one place.
So give your favorite Red Cross supporter a pat on the back this March. Better yet, contact us at 236‑2891 and find out how you can get involved.
