Man treated for gunshot wound

HILLSVILLE — A 39-year-old Cana man was injured Sunday when his gun accidentally went off, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Bobby Lyons responded to a home in Cana on a call reporting a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the evening hours, according to a news release.
“[Lyons] arrived and spoke with victim, sitting on the front porch, who said he was attempting to clean his handgun. It went off, striking him in the left leg.”
Brian Sawyers of Spring Meadow Lane was transported by helicopter for medical treatment at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., according to the sheriff’s office.
