Man shot in face, suspect in custody

Independence police say they don't know what prompted the shooting.

INDEPENDENCE — A 47-year-old Independence man was critically injured Sept. 27 following a shooting on Hilltop Drive in Independence.
Independence Police Officer Ron Houk listed the victim as Kenneth Eugene Group II, who lives at 235 Hilltop Drive.
Houk said Group was sitting in a 1994 Chevrolet when he was shot in the face with a .38 caliber pistol.
Warren Scott Robbins, 36, of 236 Nichols Drive, Independence, has been charged with malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin.
Group was transported to Twin County Regional Hospital and later transferred to Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he is listed in critical condition.
Independence Police Cpl. Matthew Adams said officers have not determined what led to the shooting.
Investigation is continuing.
