FRIES — A worker at a lumber mill in Grayson County was killed during his shift on Wednesday morning.
According to a report from Grayson Sheriff Richard Vaughan, members from his department and Fries Rescue Squad were called to C&B Lumber in Fries at 8:36 a.m.
The caller reported an accident at the facility. Upon arrival, officers found Dennis Carlie Johnson, 55, of Turkey Knob Road, deceased.
Investigators believe that Johnson was attempting to clear a jam on the conveyor belt of a machine he was using to cut lumber, when his clothing became caught, pulling him into the conveyor belt and pulley mechanism.
Johnson’s body will be transported to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke, where an autopsy will be performed.
