HILLSVILLE — An elderly Laurel Fork man involved in a head-on collision March 10 on U.S. 58 east of Hillsville has died.
The wreck occurred when George W. Cox, driving a 2005 Ford Taurus heading east towards Laurel Fork, crossed the center line at the Snake Creek Bridge and struck a 2011 Kia Sorento, according to a Virginia State Police report.
Officials at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where Cox was transported for treatment, told state police First Sgt. Mike Musser they attributed Cox's death to injuries sustained in the accident.
They didn't know whether any medical causes, like diabetes or a heart attack, contributed to the accident, Musser said. It's not clear if hospital personnel will be able to determine if there was a medical cause to the wreck.
The driver of the Kia, Carolyn Best Freger of Laurel Fork, also was taken to Baptist for treatment of serious injuries.
