HILLSVILLE — A 15-year-old Carroll County youth reported missing Nov. 19 was found safe in Illinois.
Family members reported that Courtney West was last seen at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 19 behind Woodlawn School.
Carroll County Sheriff’s Office personnel entered her missing persons information for distribution to police departments across the country, according to Investigator Shannon Goad.
The Bartlett, Ill., police department later responded to the alert, calling to say they had found the teenager in the company of a 23-year-old man from their village, the investigator said.
“My understanding is she met this individual on the Internet, Facebook possibly,” Goad said. “She told the boy where she was living and he came down here to pick her up.
“I don’t know what he was thinking, if he knew her age or what,” he said. “I’m just glad she’s home safe.”
Local authorities charged the man, Shea Glover, with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The Bartlett authorities may also press charges against Glover, Goad said.
