CANA — A woman was hospitalized for an eye injury after a report of a domestic dispute at 863 Pauls Creek Road last Thursday.
Deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office responded at about 2:20 p.m. after the report of a verbal confrontation at that address, according to First Sgt. Pat Harner. The two participants were identified as Patricia Hill and Robert Jones.
The verbal argument is said to have turned violent when one of them picked up a golf club.
Deputies charged Jones, 71, with malicious wounding.
Hill was taken first to Northern Surry Hospital in Mount Airy, N.C, for an injury to her right eye, Harner said. She was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Harner's understanding is that Jones was letting Hill and one of her daughter live there at the time.
The verbal argument started after Jones allegedly had been shooting at cats under vehicles on the property. Harner said Jones hit a tire on one vehicle and a gas line on another.
Harner and Chief Deputy Glenn Nester responded to the scene.
Jones was taken into custody, awaiting a bond hearing.
