HILLSVILLE –– Welcome to the varsity, Mr. Lundy.
Freshman Conner Lundy knocked down seven 3-pointers in his first varsity game Wednesday, leading Carroll County to a 67-49 win over Patrick County in the season opener for both teams.
Lundy finished with 21 points for the Cavaliers, who got a game-high 24 points from sophomore Ryan Gravley. Wes Smoot tossed in 11.
The Cavaliers took control in the middle two quarters, reversing a 13-10 deficit by outscoring the Cougars 47-28 up to the start of the fourth quarter.
Jacob Reynolds led Patrick County with 19 points.
Patrick County 57, Carroll County 45:The defending Region IV Division 4 runners-up got off to a rough start, falling in a nondistrict game Wednesday in Stuart.
The Cavaliers took a 23-20 lead into the half but the Cougars rallied by outscoring their guests 37-22 in the second half.
Hannah Helbert led all scorers with 22 points for Patrick County, and Kylene Culler added 11. Emily Hiatt’s nine points were high for the Cavaliers.
