If you're thinking about getting a pet please go to the Galax animal shelter. Everyone loves puppies and kittens. I do too. But there are many wonderful, beautiful older animals that go to the shelter every day. I adopted a cat from there and he was the smartest, sweetest little friend I have ever known.

There are two misconceptions I had, and I think many others have about the Galax animal shelter. The first is that Monday is kill day. That may be true but they will kill animals any time during the week for various reasons, one of which is over crowding. Another misconception I had was that they would keep tame animals for a while. They don't. When they have to kill, they kill everything.

I beg everyone out there looking for a pet to please go to the shelter. I've been there quite a few times and when I look into the little eyes of dogs and cats I see beautiful little animals who just want someone to love them.
