D&J Hobby Center in Galax will hold its 9th Annual Hobby Show on June 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m at the Galax Public Library.

Owner and show organizer Darrell Burris said moving the show to the library was beneficial last year, and the more accessible venue brought in a lot of new people to enter model kits for competition and visitors to look at the works on display.

The library is on West Stuart Drive in Galax, not far from the hobby shop at 106 Nuckolls Curve Road.

The show attracts model builders from all over the Twin Counties, as well as North Carolina and Tennessee.

There are categories for all scales and types of models, from NASCAR racers to spacecraft.

Categories include aircraft, racecars, emergency vehicles, motorcycles, street machines and customs, military kits, fantasy and historical figures, science fiction, spacecraft, ships, dioramas and more.

They can be built from a kit or made from scratch.

There is a $5 fee for the first entry and $1 for each additional entry. Participants can enter as many models as they want. Winners will receive certificates.

Admission is free for the general public.

There also will be model kits, collectibles, games, comic books and more items from D&J Hobby Center for sale at the show, as well as special raffles for prizes. The Tamiya model company has provided several model kits for raffle prizes.
