Writer suggests mural options
By no stretch of the imagination can you call that sign on the Jeff Matthews Museum a mural.
The definition of a mural is a picture or decoration — usually a very large one — on a wall or ceiling.
A mural of Matthews shooting a grizzly bear or an Indian encampment by the creek or of Main Street by [local artist] Raven Bilbrey would be better — or a conglomeration of native species of trees, bushes, wildflowers and galax leaves.
Have a printout of the mural for museum visitors, with names and numbers for them to identify each species. You could include a directory of the museum and a tribute to Matthews as a handout when patrons come in.
