Lady Cavaliers break into win column with SWD defeat of Grundy

 GRUNDY –– Carroll County pulled away from an eight-point fourth-quarter lead to score their first victory of the season with a 60-38 win over Grundy in a Southwest District game Saturday.

Trailing 7-4 after the first eight minutes, the Cavaliers gradually pulled out to a 38-30 lead after three quarters of play, then ran away with a 22-8 surge to the end.

Rachel Dalton and Lindsey Martin each hit three 3-pointers for  Carroll County, Dalton finishing with 13 points and Martin adding 12.

Hannah Stiltner scored a team-high 10 points for Grundy.

Kennedy Gambill led all scorers with 17 points for Alleghany (4-2). Sarah Eller topped Grayson County (0-3) with four points.

Grundy 65, Carroll County 62:  The Golden Wave tied the game with a strong fourth quarter and went on to take a three-point overtime win over the Cavaliers in a SWD game Saturday in Grundy.

Carroll County (2-2, 0-2) led 33-27 at the half before Grundy (2-2, 1-1) rallied.

Grundy was led by Ben Rife’s 22 points, Travis Lester scored 12 and Logan Boyd added 10.

Connor Lundy scored 16 points for the Cavaliers and Tyler Lineberry had 10.

Galax 92, Holston 43:The Maroon Tide opened the game on a tear and went on to paste the visiting Cavaliers in a nondistrict game Monday in Galax.

Galax (3-0) poured in 32 points in the fist quarter to forge a 21-point lead and never looked back, leading 71-31 by the end of the third quarter.

Justin Hash led four Maroon Tide scorers in double figures with 22 points and Lawrence Parsons added 18 points to go with 10 rebounds. Austin Pack scored 12 and Devonte McKinney tossed in 10.

Cody Hawkins hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points for Holston.

Grayson County 81, Alleghany, N.C. 63:The Blue Devils outscored the Trojans 31-16 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a nondistrict win last week in Sparta.

Eric Harvey led Grayson County with 24 points, Tyler Rutherford scored 21, Mikey Rodgers added 18 and Adam Cornett scored 10 for the Blue Devils.
