Keep focus on our children's future

-A A +A

We seem concerned with ourselves as parents and grandparents and less concerned about our children.
As we age, the regrets we have yet to confront will not compare to those we are forced to live with each day.
The past is irreversible. We cannot erase the past from our minds, happy or sad as it may be.
Regrets make the past and present, unpleasant. Regrets originate from intentional choices we have made. We should learn from bad choices that yield regrets.
We and no others can benefit from repetitions of these choices. We know from an undisputable source that our responsibilities to our children and grandchildren are to teach them God’s commandments.
We are told to remind them of God’s promise to guide and lead them in the path of righteousness. The second greatest responsibility is to live a life that enables us to minister to our children. We must set an example in conversation of spirit and faith.
The challenges we face are the right ways to instill in our children the understanding of what is right and acceptable to God.
Being faced with the most deceitful influences coming from society, churches, teachers and public figures, might require assistance to overcome. This help comes from the spirit of God and early teaching.
Our children must learn ways to joyfully overcome temptations of Satan. A few of the decisions our children and grandchildren will be faced with early in life: is abortion acceptable, is bearing children out of wedlock acceptable, are multiple marriages acceptable, is marriage between two men or two women acceptable? Is it acceptable to God to permanently mark our God-given bodies with symbols and signs?
We are obligated to assist our children in guarding against falling into these traps. Unfortunately or by God’s blessing, we realize from observation and years of study, children grow to adulthood becoming a product of their environment.
We must ask for wisdom that we can pass to our children and grandchildren. Give them the deserved opportunity to make choices of no regret. Right choices bring a life of joy and happiness.
