HILLSVILLE — A man has been charged with felony child neglect and malicious wounding after an investigation by the Hillsville Police Department regarding a report of a 24-day-old infant having been seriously injured while in the father's care, according to a press release issued Monday.
William Ray Bobbitt, 22, of Cox Street in Hillsville, was charged after officers questioned witnesses and executed a search warrant at a residence in town.
Officers were called to Twin County Regional Hospital on Aug. 8 after an infant was admitted with life-threatening injuries.
The investigation revealed that the child had suffered serious head injuries and bruising during the early morning hours and was taken to the TCRH emergency room on Sunday morning.
The child was transported to the Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., and was listed in critical condition.
Bobbitt is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail pending an appearance in Carroll County Juvenile & Domestic Court.
