I am writing this letter to get support for some of Grayson County’ s finest.
They are all in their 60s and 70s, but when a veteran dies they are there to give him or her a military rites as all veterans deserve.
When there are parades to honor the fallen, they are there — rain, shine, snow. Not because they have to, but because they want to.
In this day and time it’s hard to find such volunteers like these men. They have served their time in harm’s way, and it’s a way for them to give back to the fallen and to keep us reminded that freedom is not free. There’s a cost — in lives and in pain.
They never ask for money to do these things. It’s all given free. But we, as a community, need to help support them, too.
The Post 7726 of Independence also supports our local sports teams, the Red Cross bloodmobile and lots of veterans’ programs throughout the state.
How, you ask? Well, it's through a bingo game every Thursday night at the hall just west of town at 7 p.m.
I am glad to be a member of this post. And on the honor guard. But we need your help.
Please come out and support us and the work we do in support of the local youth and the senior members of our county.
You will be welcomed with respect and a caring friendly group. I hope to see you there. Help us to help them.
