INDEPENDENCE — A two-month investigation by the Bureau of Drug Enforcement Services (DES) of the Virginia State Police has resulted in charges against an Independence dentist.

Sgt. Mike Conroy of Virginia State Police said that Dr. Gordon J. Miniclier, who operates a dental office at 150 W. Main St., was arrested June 4.

Conroy said special DES agents executed search warrants at Minclier’s office and his home at 1690 Rim Rock Road.

Miniclier is charged with two counts of distribution of a schedule II drug — reportedly Xanax and hydrocodone — one count of distribution of a schedule IV drug — reportedly Percocet. He was also charged with one count of assault on a police officer. Miniclier allegedly struck a special agent during execution of the search warrant.

Special Agent N.R. White was the officer in charge of the investigation.

Conroy said the state Department of Health Professionals was also expected to conduct a separate investigation since a health care provider had been charged.

Miniclier was placed in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin where he posted a $7,500 bond.

Conroy said the Independence Police Department also assisted in execution of the search warrant.

Investigation is continuing and more arrests are possible.
