Homeschoolers second in state

 The Lady Panthers of the Blue Ridge Panthers Homeschool Athletic Association placed second  in the Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association’s varsity state tournament March 5 at the Joy Ranch gymnasium.

The fourth-seeded Panthers opened the tournament by upsetting top seed Richmond Spirit 41-35 in overtime.

“Our girls gave all they had and more,” head coach Mark Wagg said.

In the championship game, the Panters fell to the Front Royal Flames 38-22, finishing second in the state.

The team is comprised of four junior varsity players  with the remainder being middle schoolers.

“They competed against varsity teams and proved themselves to be a strong, up-and-coming team,” Wagg said.

Team members are Sarah Beasley, Amelia Collins, Lulu Cox, Millie Cox, Alaina Pratt, Olivia Pratt, Jessica Vass, Sarah Wagg, Cassidy Williams and India Williams. The team is coached by Wagg and Tim Williams.
